Speech Writing

When the moment matters and the right words are needed, a speech writer can help you convey your message effectively while saving you time and effort.

Whether you are speaking at a wedding, corporate event or social occasion, as an award winning public speaker and writer I can help you find the words you want to say and coach you how to deliver them.

Your time is valuable so my speech writing service is flexible to fit around your schedule and needs.

Whether you are starting from a blank sheet of paper or you are looking for help to refine your first draft I will clarify your message and enable you to forge a connection with your audience.

What is it like to work with a speech writer?

There are three questions that sit at the heart of the speech writing process:

  • What are the words you want to say?

  • What are the emotions you want to sway?

  • What is the information you need to convey?

First of all – what are the words you want to say?

In most situations, a speech only has room and time to share one big idea. What is it? Getting great clarity on this makes the rest of the process much easier.

Consider what would be the end of this sentence:  if the audience only remember one thing I want it to be…..

So the start of the speech writing process, assuming we have a blank sheet of paper to work from, is to find out what is the idea you want to share with the audience.  This normally becomes clear early during our initial conversation.

The other thing I will be noticing as we spend time together is how you talk – the words you use, the way you structure your sentences and how this changes as any emotion enters the conversation.

The most important thing I have to do in order to make it easy for you to deliver your speech is to make sure it sounds like you have written it.  This will not only help the audience connect with you and your message but it will be much easier for you to say on the day.

Once the ‘big idea’ is clear I will then structure the rest of the talk, usually around 3 key points with an illustration or personal anecdote to emphasise the key point.

What are the emotions you want to sway?

If you want the audience to buy into your big idea or decide to take some other action, then we need to make it easier for them by adding some emotional connection.

We make decisions in the emotional part of our brain and then justify that decision to ourselves with facts afterwards.  This means if we only supply the audience with facts and no emotional context then it is very hard for them to make any decision on the back of your speech.

How do you want people to feel during your talk?  Is it hope or outrage, affection or anger?

What is the information you need to convey?

The final core element of the speech is the facts or information that needs to be conveyed.  Less is definitely more when it comes to data, and your audience is likely only to remember one or two data points (unless they are taking notes) so we will need to pick the most relevant data carefully.  And they communicate in a way that is both informative and interesting.

Help to write a corporate KEYNOTE or SPEECH

Executive communication is an art – whether you are wanting to inspire your team, inform journalists or establish your firm as a thought leader at an industry conference.

People will judge the whole company based on the performance of their senior leaders whenever they stand up and speak.  In fact research suggests almost half the reputation value and market value of the whole business is directly tied to the reputation of the CEO.  And the one thing that makes the biggest difference to the CEO’s reputation is their ability to stand up and speak.

Engaging the help of a speech writer and speaking coach is an investment that will not only help your career but the whole organisation.
